Dr Nathan Anderson

MBBS, BMedSci, FRACS (Orth), FAOrthA

Dr Anderson is a Victorian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon with post-fellowship specialist training in Spinal Surgery. He is dedicated to providing high quality treatment for a whole range of spinal conditions, ranging from cervical and lumbar disc prolapses causing pain, degenerative and traumatic spinal issues, scoliosis and spinal tumours.

He completed his schooling in Ballarat, and then attended medical school at the University of Melbourne. Dr Anderson then completed internship and residency at St Vincent’s Hospital in Fitzroy, after which he was accepted into the Orthopaedic training program. He spent time working throughout both metropolitan and regional Victoria, and he obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).

Despite having qualified as an orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Anderson has decided to focus on conditions affecting the spine as he feels this allows him to provide highly focused and quality spinal management. Dr Anderson has completed multiple spinal surgery fellowships under the supervision of both Orthopaedic Surgeons and Neurosurgeons. Through this he has gained extensive experience in the management of a wide range of spinal conditions. This includes disc prolapse, lumbar and cervical degenerative disease, spinal tumours, adult and paediatric scoliosis correction, and spinal trauma. He is trained in the use of minimally invasive spinal surgery techniques, and where appropriate he utilises both robotics and intra-operative computer navigation during spinal procedures to achieve excellent outcomes for patients.

Dr Anderson currently holds a public Spine Surgery appointment at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he is actively involved in mentoring and teaching Orthopaedic Surgical trainees and he is a member of the spinal trauma team. He operates privately at Epworth Hospital in Richmond, The Northern Private Hospital in Epping, and Warringal Private Hospital in Heidelberg. He is available for consultations at each of these locations. Dr Anderson is a current member of the Spine Society of Australia, and regularly attends meetings to stay up to date with the latest innovations in spinal surgery.

In his private time, Dr Anderson is a loving husband to Sarah, and father of two beautiful girls. When not spending time with family, Dr Anderson likes to watch Australian Rules Football, play golf, and keep fit with running and bike riding.
